News Corp Will Close Bronx Printing Facility
News Corp said Wednesday it would examine options for the future of its printing plant in the Port Morris section of the Bronx, which it plans to close. The company will shift printing of the daily New York Post and Wall Street Journal and weekly Barron’s to the New York Times’ College Point plant in Queens.
The company has notified the leadership of the unions representing the employees at the Bronx Print Plant about the plan, and is entering into a period of negotiation with the unions. While the process is underway, the publications will continue to be produced at the Bronx plant.
“This is a difficult but important step towards safeguarding our journalism and securing the printing of our publications well into the future,” said Almar Latour, CEO of Dow Jones and publisher of The Wall Street Journal.
Spanning 400,000 square feet, the Bronx Print Plant opened in 2001.
